While you’re in Brisbane: Things to do during Expo Week

February 20, 2024

So, you’re coming to Brisbane for the 2024 Australasian Hospitality and Gaming Expo (AHG Expo), presented by TAB, MAX & SKY. But when you’re not at Expo (Wednesday March 20 and Thursday March 21), what else will you see and do? Here are a few ideas…

P!NK

Joined by special guest TONES AND I, P!NK is set to bring her Summer Carnival Australian Tour to Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday March 19. Don’t miss classics like ‘So What’, ‘Raise Your Glass’ and ‘What About Us’, as well as songs from her highly-anticipated new album, ‘TRUSTFALL’.

World Science Festival 2024

Returning to Brisbane for 10 days from Friday March 15 to Sunday March 24, the World Science Festival presents a jam-packed program of workshops, demonstrations, art installations and more. Some are even free – and most are taking place in South Brisbane and South Bank.

Nearly Midnight

From now until March 27, step into an enchanted world of fantasy and fun with Nearly Midnight – an interactive, eye-catching installation by local artist Rachel Burke. Tying in with GoMA’s ‘Fairy Tales’ exhibition, Nearly Midnight brings Burke’s magical, large-scale works (including a two-metre-high sparkling slipper, mirror ball and more tinsel than you can imagine) to Brisbane Quarter.

Arka Kinari

A 70-tonne sailing ship has travelled across the Atlantic and docked at New Fark Park as part of the Brisbane Powerhouse’s two-week OHM Festival. Hosting sustainability workshops by day, then transforming into a stage for free performances by night, Arka Kinari has been travelling ancient maritime trade routes since 2019 – experience it before it sets sail once again.

Twilight in the Vines

It’s the summer soiree of the moment, inviting you to sit amongst the vines and enjoy a seasonally-curated platter of food – all expertly paired with Sirromet wine. Twilight in the Vines is taking place on select Saturdays and Sundays throughout March and is a perfect excuse to explore all that Brisbane’s east side has to offer.

For LEGO fans…

There are not one but two LEGO events taking place around the AHG Expo. On Saturday March 23 and Sunday March 24, at Chandler Arena, BrisBricks LEGO Fan Expo will showcase incredible builds, imaginative displays and lots of LEGO. Then, from now until July 14, Jurassic World by Brickman is a must-see exhibition with over 50 large-scale dinosaurs, props, scenes and activities. It’s taking place at the Queensland Museum, just a short walk from the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Aqua

Reigniting nineties nostalgia one bubblegum-pop hit at a time, Aqua will take over the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on March 21. With classics like ‘Barbie Girl’, ‘Doctor Jones’ and ‘Lollipop (Candyman)’, Aqua will have you unlocking core memories while making new ones.
